Guinness Brownies with Chocolate Ganache
Description
The brownie batter starts with a box fudge brownie mix combined with Guinness Stout, neutral cooking oil, and an egg. This addition of Guinness imparts a subtle maltiness and depth to the rich chocolate base. The batter is spread evenly in a 13 by 9 inch pan and baked at 350°F until a toothpick inserted comes out almost clean, indicating a fudgy consistency.
Once cooled in the pan, the topping ganache is prepared by melting semi-sweet chocolate chips with butter and Guinness in a microwave-safe bowl, stirring intermittently until smooth. Powdered sugar is then folded in to sweeten and thicken the ganache. This glossy chocolate mixture is spread over the brownies for a rich finish.
The resulting brownies are thin and fudgy but can be made thicker by using a smaller pan and baking longer. The ganache adds a creamy texture and an intensified chocolate and Guinness flavor. After ganache sets, the brownies are cut into squares for serving, offering a decadent dessert with complex flavors.
