Ham and Cheese Sliders

Ham and Cheese Sliders are small sandwiches made with Hawaiian rolls layered with thinly sliced ham and cheddar cheese. The rolls are brushed with a brown sugar, honey, and spicy mustard sauce, then topped with a buttery mixture containing poppy seeds, Worcestershire sauce, and spices before baking. The baking melts the cheese and browns the tops, creating warm, savory sliders with a sweet and tangy glaze.

Description

Ham and Cheese Sliders use soft, sweet Hawaiian rolls sliced in half and brushed with a sauce made from spicy mustard, brown sugar, honey, and a pinch of salt. The bottom halves receive half a slice of cheddar cheese folded and placed on each roll, topped with thin slices of ham, then finished with the remaining cheese.

The tops of the rolls are brushed with more of the mustard mixture, then the assembled sliders are topped with the roll tops. A melted butter mixture containing poppy seeds, Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, garlic powder, and salt is poured over the sandwiches before baking at 350°F for 15 to 20 minutes. This baking step melts the cheese and produces nicely browned tops, binding the flavors and creating a rich, sweet-savory bite.

These sliders serve well as appetizers, party snacks, or an easy meal. Their combination of sweet rolls, tangy mustard sauce, savory ham, and melted cheese makes for a satisfying handheld dish.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 12 hawaiian rolls cut in half
  • 3 Tablespoons mustard spicy
  • 2 Tablespoons light brown sugar packed
  • 1 Tablespoon honey
  • 1/2 pound ham sliced thin, leftover
  • 12 lices cheddar cheese
  • 6 Tablespoons butter melted, unsalted
  • 3/4 teaspoon poppy seeds
  • 3/4 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 3/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • pinch kosher salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Place the bottom halves of the Hawaiian rolls in a 10-inch cast-iron skillet or baking dish cut side up, set aside.
  2. In a small bowl mix together the mustard, brown sugar, the honey, and a pinch of kosher salt until smooth. Brush the cut side of the rolls with the sauce, using half of the sauce.
  3. Take a slice of cheese and cut it in half, fold it into a 4th and place it on one of the rolls halves. Continue with all of the rolls, using ½ a slice of cheese per roll. Top each roll evenly with the ham slices. Top the ham with the remaining cheese.
  4. Brush the tops of the rolls on the cut side with the remaining mustard sauce. Top the sliders with the top buns, set aside.
  5. In a small bowl mix together the butter, poppy seeds, Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, garlic powder, and a pinch of kosher salt. Evenly pour this on top of the rolls. Bake for 15-20 minutes until the cheese is melted and the tops of the rolls are browned.
