Ham and Egg Casserole
Description
This casserole blends beaten eggs and milk seasoned with a touch of seasoned salt to create a savory egg base. Cooked diced ham adds a salty, meaty element, while shredded cheddar cheese provides sharpness and creaminess once melted. Finely diced sweet onion is mixed in for mild sweetness and mild pungency.
The mixture is poured into a greased baking dish and baked at 350°F until fully set with a knife test, resulting in a firm but tender texture similar to a crustless quiche. The top can be garnished with fresh herbs such as chives or parsley to add color and a subtle fresh note.
This casserole serves well as a hearty breakfast, brunch, or light dinner. It can be cut into squares for individual servings. The dish balances egg creaminess with meaty and cheesy flavors in a convenient baked format.
For larger groups, doubling the ingredients and baking in a larger pan is recommended, with a slightly longer baking time to ensure doneness. Adjustments in bake time are needed to maintain even cooking when scaling up.
Ingredients
- 8 large egg or use 4 whole eggs and 6 egg whites
- 1 cup milk whole or 2%
- ½ teaspoon seasoned salt (such as Lawry's)
- 8 ounces ham cooked, diced
- 1 cup cheddar cheese grated
- 3 tablespoons sweet onion very finely diced
- chives or parsley, chopped fresh, optional garnish
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease or spray an 8-inch square baking dish with nonstick cooking spray; set aside. Beat the eggs, milk, and seasoned salt together with a whisk in a large bowl.
- Stir in the ham, cheese, and onion.
- Pour the egg mixture into the prepared baking dish.
- Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the eggs are set and a knife inserted in the center comes out clean. Cut into squares and garnish with fresh herbs, if desired.
Notes
- For serving more people, double the ingredients and bake in a 9 x 13-inch dish, increasing baking time by 5–10 minutes to ensure the casserole is fully set.
