Hissy Fit Dip
Description
This Hissy Fit Dip starts by browning bulk pork sausage and draining excess fat. The cooked sausage is combined with an array of cheeses including cream cheese at room temperature, processed Velveeta cubes, sour cream, and shredded Muenster for layered creaminess and melt. Fresh chives add mild onion flavor while Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, and ground sage contribute a savory, herbaceous seasoning.
The mixture is spread evenly in a greased baking dish and baked at 350°F for approximately one hour, during which it becomes bubbly with a lightly browned surface. The result is a rich and spoonable dip with a smooth texture punctuated by sausage chunks.
This dip is best served warm alongside tortilla chips, crackers, or fresh veggies, making it suitable for casual gatherings. It can be prepared in advance and refrigerated for up to one day before baking, though additional baking time may be required. Alternatively, cooking the mixture in a slow cooker melts the cheeses thoroughly without a browned crust.
Ingredients
- 1 pound pork sausage bulk
- 16 ounces sour cream
- 8 ounces cream cheese at room temperature
- 8 ounces processed cheese cut into small cubes, Velveeta brand
- 4 ounces Muenster cheese grated
- 2 tablespoons chives fresh, minced
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon sage dried ground
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Coat a 9x9-inch baking dish with non-stick cooking spray.
- In a skillet over medium heat, cook the sausage, crumbling it as it cooks, until browned and cooked through. Remove the sausage from the skillet with a slotted spoon and place on a paper towel-lined plate. Allow to cool for 5 minutes.
- Add the sausage and all remaining ingredients to a medium bowl and stir until well blended. Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish, spreading it into an even layer.
- Bake for 1 hour, or until bubbly and golden brown. Serve warm with tortilla chips, crackers, veggies, or your favorite dipping vehicle
Notes
- This dip can be assembled a day in advance and refrigerated, potentially requiring extra baking time until bubbly and golden.
- To make in a slow cooker, combine cooked sausage with all ingredients and heat on high for 1 to 2 hours, stirring occasionally, but browning will not occur.
