How to Make the Sanderson Sisters
- We made three stacks of mini pancakes. Each stack makes the face of one of the sisters. We used vanilla frosting between each pancake to hold them together, as well as a layer of frosting on top of each stack to look more like skin color.
- Once the frosting is dry, you can use an edible marker to draw on the eyes. You could also use decorating icing or black candy melts and pipe on the eyes.
- The last step for making the Sanderson sisters is their distinctive hair. For Sarah Sanderson, we used yellow frosting to make the hair. This frosting is perfect for dipping the rest of the goodies on our board! For Winifred Sanderson's hair, we made a pile of bright red raspberries. For Mary Sanderson's hair, we used blackberries.
How to Build the Rest of the Board
- To make the waffle batter, we mixed up a big batch of pancake mix, such as Bisquick. We divided the batter into 3 bowls and added a couple drops of food coloring to each bowl, so we ended up with a bowl of purple batter, a bowl or orange batter, and a bowl of green batter. I recommend using neon gel food coloring for vibrant colors. We cooked the waffles in a mini waffle maker with skull and spiderweb molds.
- To fill up the rest of our board, we used pre-made snacks such as mini chocolate donuts, muffins, cinnamon rolls, and granola bars. Then we used decorating icing and different sizes of candy eyeballs to decorate these snacks. For example, we used cookie icing to draw spiderwebs on top of the donuts.
