Homemade Bisquick Mix
Description
This baking mix recipe mixes all dry ingredients including flour, baking powder, cream of tartar, powdered milk, salt, and sugar with vegetable shortening to create a uniform mixture. The shortening is integrated to replicate the texture and leavening properties of commercial biscuit and pancake mixes.
The homemade mix can be stored in an airtight container and used similarly to store-bought Bisquick in a variety of quick bread and batter recipes. It allows control over ingredients and can be made in larger quantities for kitchen convenience.
Portion adjustments can be made by halving the recipe for smaller batches. The mix keeps fresh for about one month when stored properly, allowing regular use without frequent preparation.
