Homemade Harissa Hummus

Homemade Harissa Hummus combines traditional chickpea hummus ingredients with spicy harissa paste to add a smoky heat dimension. The smooth, creamy blend of chickpeas, tahini, garlic, and olive oil is balanced by the bold chili flavor of harissa, yielding a dip with a kick that can be adjusted to taste. It's suited for serving with vegetables or pita.

Description

This recipe blends chickpeas, tahini, and garlic in a food processor until smooth, then incorporates lemon juice, salt, olive oil, and harissa paste for spice and complexity. The harissa spice level can be adjusted to preference, making the hummus either mildly piquant or more assertively spicy. The final texture is creamy, which depends on the tahini and chickpea quality.

Harissa adds a smoky warmth that elevates the traditional hummus flavor without overpowering it. The dip can be served immediately or stored cold up to five days. It pairs well with fresh vegetable sticks, pita chips, or as a spread in sandwiches.

Adjust the thickness with small amounts of water if too thick, and shake tahini before use to maintain good consistency. Proper storage in an airtight container keeps the dip fresh and preserves its flavor.
