Homemade Herbes de Provence
Description
This herb blend combines equal portions of oregano, thyme, savory, tarragon, basil, marjoram, and parsley with smaller amounts of anise seed and dried lavender. The mixture is gently stirred together and stored airtight to maintain its aroma and flavor.
Herbes de Provence can be used as a sprinkle over dishes before cooking or mixed with olive oil to marinate meats or fish. Its blend balances savory and aromatic elements suitable for roasting, grilling, and seasoning various Mediterranean recipes.
Adjust the blend to taste by omitting or varying certain herbs. Adding ingredients like dried orange zest, rosemary, or sage personalizes the seasoning. The dried herb mix lasts longer when stored properly and is a convenient way to add consistent flavor to meals.
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoon oregano dried
- 2 tablespoon thyme dried
- 2 tablespoon savory dried
- 2 tablespoon tarragon dried
- 2 tablespoon basil dried

- 2 tablespoon parsley dried, or chervil
- 1 tablespoon anise seed dried
- 1 tablespoon dried lavender
Instructions

- Make this to your taste, if you want you can omit any one or two of these ingredients and still have a stellar herb seasoning. Try adding in a favourite flavour like dry orange zest, rosemary or sage. Sprinkle over dishes before cooking or blend with a little olive oil and rub all over roasts or fish fillets before cooking. Bon Appetit!
