Homemade Hoisin Sauce
Description
This sauce is made by mixing light soy sauce, natural peanut butter, honey, rice vinegar, sesame oil, freshly grated garlic, black pepper, and a fermented paste such as miso, spicy bean paste, or gochujang with five-spice powder. Combining these ingredients creates a thick, flavorful hoisin sauce with sweet, nutty, tangy, and umami notes reminiscent of traditional commercial varieties.
The sauce is well suited for use in marinades, glazes for meats, dipping sauces for appetizers, or as a finishing touch in stir-fried dishes. It can be stored refrigerated in an airtight jar for up to a month, making it a convenient homemade alternative to store-bought hoisin sauce.
