Homemade Starbucks Honey Citrus Mint Tea (Medicine Ball Recipe)
Description
This recipe heats whole lemonade to approximately 185°F, which is warm enough for steeping tea without bitterness. Two tea bags, typically a green tea variety and a peach herbal tea, steep together in the lemonade to impart mild floral and fruity notes. Honey sweetens the drink, while peppermint extract or syrup can be added for a refreshing mint flavor. Frothing the lemonade before steeping is optional to create a textured surface.
The resulting tea supports a complex flavor profile combining citrus sharpness, gentle sweetness from honey, fruity and minty accents, and the subtle tannins of green tea. Serving the beverage hot brings out these qualities, making it a warming and calming drink.
This honey citrus mint tea is suitable for making in single servings or multiple batches to store refrigerated after removing tea bags. It reheats well both in microwave-safe cups or on stovetop, retaining its flavors and soothing effect.
Ingredients
- 1 ½ cup lemonade
- 1 achet tea or Tazo Zen Tea, Jade Citrus Mint, Teavana brand
- 1 achet tea or Bigelow Perfect Peach Herbal Tea, Peach Tranquility, Teavana brand
- 1 tbsp honey
- 2-3 drops peppermint extract or a teaspoon of peppermint syrup, optional
Instructions
- Steam lemonade in either an electric tea kettle set to 185 degrees F or on the stovetop in a saucepan (measure temperature with a thermometer) over medium heat. As it's steaming, add peppermint syrup or drops, if using. Once at temperature, remove the lemonade from the heat and into a large mug.
- Optional: Once heated, use a milk frother or the steam wand on your espresso maker to froth the lemonade.
- Steep the two tea bags in the hot lemonade: the green tea for 3 minutes, the peach tea for 5 minutes.
- Stir in the honey until fully incorporated into the tea.
- Drink and enjoy hot!
Notes
- Tea bags should be removed before storing refrigerated batches to avoid bitter flavors.
- This tea reheats effectively in a microwave-safe mug or over the stove on medium-low heat.
- Adjust peppermint extract quantity to taste; it is optional but adds a minty note often associated with the classic Medicine Ball.
- You can scale the recipe to multiple servings by increasing lemonade, tea bags, and honey accordingly.
