Homemade Taco Seasoning

Homemade Taco Seasoning is a blend of chili powder, ground cumin, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and a touch of cayenne for heat. This mix provides a balanced combination of smoky, savory, and mildly spicy flavors. It is designed to season approximately one pound of meat, adding classic taco seasoning flavor without preservatives or additives found in some store-bought packets. The seasoning can be stored in an airtight container for repeated use.

Description

This recipe for Homemade Taco Seasoning combines six tablespoons of chili powder with ground cumin, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and a small amount of cayenne pepper to create a flavorful spice blend. The chili powder forms the base with its smoky warmth, complemented by earthy cumin and sweet paprika. Garlic and onion powders contribute savory depth, while black pepper adds mild heat. The cayenne pepper portion is minimal, providing just a hint of additional spiciness.

The seasoning is mixed thoroughly and stored in a sealed container for convenience. It is portioned so that two tablespoons are used per pound of meat, allowing even distribution of flavor for taco preparations. This blend can be applied to ground beef, chicken, or other proteins to create a familiar taco taste without relying on commercial seasoning packets.

Having this homemade seasoning ready enables control over ingredient quality and seasoning intensity. It's also free of unnecessary additives and fillers. The blend can be adjusted to taste by increasing or reducing individual spices as preferred. This seasoning works well beyond tacos in other Mexican-style dishes as well.
