Honey Garlic Chicken Bites

Honey Garlic Chicken Bites are bite-sized pieces of chicken breast cooked until golden and coated in a thick honey, soy, garlic, and vinegar glaze with a touch of red pepper flakes. The sauce is thickened with a cornstarch slurry to a glossy finish, offering a balanced sweet and savory profile with a mild kick. Garnished with chopped fresh parsley, these bites are convenient for serving with rice or as a finger food.

Description

The recipe starts by pan-searing evenly cut chicken breast pieces seasoned with salt and pepper until cooked and golden. A sauce made from honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar, onion powder, and red pepper flakes is simmered briefly with garlic in the pan before being thickened with a cornstarch-water mixture. Returning the chicken to the pan coats it evenly with the glossy glaze, providing both flavor and shine.

Texturally, the chicken pieces stay tender inside with a sticky, slightly spicy-sweet exterior. The cooking method ensures the sauce clings well without overpowering the meat. The fresh parsley garnish adds a mild herbal element and visual contrast.

Serving suggestions include plating the bites over cooked rice to absorb the sauce and complement the savory-sweet flavor. This dish fits well into a casual dinner or served as part of a sharing meal.

Tips emphasize uniform chicken piece sizes for even cooking, adjusting the red pepper flakes for desired heat, and using fresh garlic for best flavor. Monitoring the sauce during simmering prevents over-thickening or burning. Alternative garnishes like sesame seeds or green onions can provide variation.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 pounds chicken breast skinless and boneless, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • salt to tastge
  • black pepper to tastge
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • ¼ cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce low sodium
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • parsley chopped, for garnish, fresh

Instructions

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the chicken pieces, season with salt and pepper and cook until golden brown and no longer pink in the middle, about 5-6 minutes. Remove chicken and set aside.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar, onion powder, and red pepper.
  3. In the same skillet, lower the heat to medium and add the minced garlic. Cook for about 30 seconds or until fragrant.
  4. Pour the honey mixture into the skillet with the garlic and bring to a simmer. Mix the cornstarch and water in a small bowl to create a slurry, then pour into the skillet. Stir continuously until the sauce thickens, about 2 minutes.
  5. Add the chicken back to the skillet and toss to coat with the sauce. Cook for another 1-2 minutes to ensure the chicken is heated through and covered in the glaze.
  6. Remove from heat and sprinkle with chopped parsley and serve over cooked rice.

Notes

  • Cut chicken into pieces of uniform size to ensure even cooking and consistent texture.
  • Adjust the amount of red pepper flakes based on your preferred spice level.
  • Use fresh garlic to achieve a more pronounced garlic flavor in the sauce.
  • Watch the sauce closely while simmering to prevent it from becoming too thick or burning.
  • For garnish variety, consider sesame seeds or chopped green onions instead of parsley.
