Honey Mustard Chicken Wings
Description
Honey Mustard Chicken Wings combine the sharpness of Dijon mustard with the sweetness of honey and a touch of heat from hot sauce. The wings are seasoned and baked on a rack for even cooking and a crispy texture. Tossing the wings with the homemade sauce and baking briefly again helps the glaze adhere and intensifies the flavor. Baking instead of frying creates a less greasy wing while maintaining a satisfying texture.
The sauce balances acidity from apple cider vinegar with sweet and spicy notes from honey and hot sauce, complementing the chicken’s savory taste. The baking method allows for a practical, hands-off cooking process that favors crispness without excess oil.
These wings work well as an appetizer or a main dish served alongside simple sides or salads. The sauce clings nicely to each piece, making them flavorful in every bite.
Using parchment paper and a wire rack on the baking sheet helps keep the wings off excess fat and promotes even cooking. A heavy-duty baking sheet is advised to prevent warping at high temperatures during baking.
Ingredients
Sauce
- 1/3 cup Dijon mustard
- 3 tablespoon honey
- 2 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
- 2 teaspoon hot sauce
Chicken
- 2 pounds chicken wings tips removed, and drumettes separated (about 20-24 wings)
- 1 tablespoon avocado oil or olive oil
- salt to taste
- black pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Use a paper towel to remove any moisture from the chicken wings.
- In a large mixing bowl, toss the wings with the oil, salt and pepper.
- Layer a piece of parchment paper on a baking sheet then place a wire rack on top. Spread out the wings on a single layer on the wire rack.
- Bake for 45-50 minutes or until crispy.
- While the wings are cooking, make the sauce. Add the dijon mustard, honey, apple cider vinegar, and hot sauce to a bowl and stir until well combined.
- Remove wings from the oven. Toss the wings in the sauce and place them back in the oven on the baking sheet and cook for an additional 10 minutes.
Notes
- Use a heavy-duty baking sheet to prevent warping during high-temperature baking.
- Removing moisture from the wings before seasoning helps achieve crispier skin.
- Toss wings thoroughly in sauce before the final bake to ensure even coating.
