Honey-Sriracha Brussels Sprouts Recipe

This recipe transforms Brussels sprouts into a flavorful side with a balance of heat and sweetness. The sprouts are pan-seared until browned and tender, then coated in a honey-sriracha glaze that includes soy sauce, rice vinegar, and garlic powder. A touch of butter enriches the sauce, giving it a smooth, glossy finish. The combination highlights the natural earthiness of Brussels sprouts with a vibrant, spicy kick that can complement a variety of main dishes.

Description

Honey-Sriracha Brussels Sprouts Recipe combines fresh Brussels sprouts with a tangy, sweet, and spicy glaze. The sprouts are halved and cooked in a hot pan with vegetable oil, achieving a nicely browned and softened texture. The glaze is prepared by whisking together sriracha, honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar or lemon juice, and garlic powder, then heated in the pan before butter is stirred in to thicken the sauce. The sprouts are returned to the pan to absorb the sauce for a few minutes, resulting in a flavorful coating.

The dish balances the natural crunch and slight bitterness of Brussels sprouts with a sticky glaze that’s both sweet and spicy. Cooking the sprouts to a golden brown on the cut side ensures a pleasant texture contrast between crispy edges and tender centers. This method intensifies the sprouts’ flavor and pairs well with the potent sauce.

This flavorful side can accompany a range of meals, such as grilled meats or roasted dishes, where a spicy-sweet vegetable adds contrast. The recipe notes offer alternative cooking methods, including oven roasting and air frying, for different textures or convenience. Roasting in the oven or using an air fryer can produce similarly caramelized sprouts before tossing them in the heated glaze.

For best results, ensure the Brussels sprouts are evenly browned and adjust cooking time to your preferred tenderness. The honey and sriracha sauce can be warmed before combining to improve coating consistency. These preparation tips help achieve a balanced, flavorful vegetable side.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 pound Brussels sprouts trimmed and cut in half
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • salt to taste
  • black pepper to taste
  • 3 tablespoons sriracha
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon rice vinegar or use lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon butter

Instructions

  1. Toss the brussels sprouts with olive oil and salt and pepper to taste.
  2. Heat a large pan to medium heat and add the brussels sprouts, trimmed sides down. Cook for 6-7 minutes, until nicely browned.
  3. Flip the brussels sprouts and cook another 5 minutes, or until softened to your preference. Set the brussels sprouts onto a plate.
  4. Return the pan to medium-low heat.
  5. In a small bowl, whisk together the sriracha, honey, soy sauce, vinegar (or lemon juice), and garlic powder. Add to the pan and heat for 2 minutes.
  6. Whisk in the butter until it melts through and the honey-sriracha sauce thickens.
  7. Return the brussels sprouts to the pan and toss. Heat for 2-3 minutes and serve.

Notes

  • You can roast the Brussels sprouts at 400°F for 20-25 minutes, then toss with the warm honey-sriracha sauce before serving for a different texture.
  • Alternatively, air fry the sprouts at 375°F for 5 minutes, shake the basket, then continue air frying for another 2-3 minutes until done to your liking.
