Honeydew Lemonade
Description
This drink starts by peeling and cubing ripe honeydew melon, blending it into a smooth puree yielding about two cups. The puree is combined with freshly squeezed lemon juice and water in a pitcher, stirred until well mixed. Depending on the melon’s natural sweetness, a small amount of honey or other sweetener may be added, but often it is not necessary. The lemonade can be strained to remove pulp for a smoother texture.
Served over ice, this honeydew lemonade offers a subtly sweet and citrusy flavor that is light and refreshing. The melon provides natural sugars and a pleasant aroma, while the lemon juice adds brightness and balance to the drink.
A creative serving suggestion is to freeze small melon balls using a melon baller and add these frozen spheres as decorative ice cubes, which enhance the presentation and chill the drink without diluting it.
Ingredients
- 2 lbs. honeydew melon about ½ medium melon, ripe
- ½ cup lemon juice freshly squeezed
- 2 ½ cups water
- honey depending on the sweetness of the fruit, or sweetener of your choice, optional
Instructions
- Peel and cube the honeydew and puree it in a blender. You should have about 2 cups of puree. Pour it into a pitcher along with the lemon juice and water and stir to combine well. If needed, add a tablespoon or two of honey or other sweetener (if the honeydew is ripe and very sweet, you won't need to use any additional sweetener). If desired, strain the honeydew lemonade before pouring into glasses. Serve over ice.
Notes
- Freeze melon balls made with a melon baller to use as ice cubes; they keep the drink cold without watering it down.
