How To Make Homemade Hot Chocolate Mix
Description
This recipe for Homemade Hot Chocolate Mix uses a combination of powdered milk, icing sugar, cocoa powder, and chocolate chips. The ingredients are processed together until finely ground, ensuring the chocolate chips break down to blend smoothly with the powders. When prepared, the mix dissolves readily in hot water, producing a creamy and sweet hot chocolate without requiring additional milk. The semi-sweet chocolate chips add depth of chocolate flavor beyond the cocoa powder alone.
The method calls for patience during processing to achieve a powdery texture. The final blend can be stored in an airtight container for up to six weeks, although its best flavor is maintained if used sooner. For serving, two heaping tablespoons stirred into hot water produces a strong chocolate drink, but amounts can be adjusted to taste. Optional mini marshmallows can be mixed into the powder after processing for added sweetness and texture.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups powdered milk
- 1 cup icing sugar
- 1/2 cup cocoa powder
- 1 cup chocolate chips semi-sweet
Instructions
- Combine all ingredients in a larger food processor and process until completely broken down and it's powdered. The chocolate chips will take a while to become granules, so have patience and just let the food processor chop it all up.
- Store in an airtight container for 6 weeks (or more), but it won't last that long!(mini marshmallows are optional but can be added to the mix after processing).
- Stir into hot water to taste (I like mine strong and use a good two heaping tablespoons for my mug). You don't need to add milk since we already use powdered milk in the mix.
Notes
- Process the chocolate chips thoroughly to ensure a smooth powder without large pieces.
- Store the mix in an airtight container for up to six weeks to maintain freshness.
- Adjust the amount of mix per cup of water depending on desired chocolate strength.
- Optional mini marshmallows may be added after processing for extra sweetness.
