Iced Matcha Latte Recipe
Description
This Iced Matcha Latte features powdered green tea whisked with a small amount of hot water to dissolve fully, then combined with additional water to form a smooth, bright green mixture. Chilling in the refrigerator or freezer cools the matcha concentrate. Served over a glass filled mostly with ice and your choice of milk—such as almond, soy, oat, or dairy—the latte offers a refreshing, subtly grassy flavor with creamy notes depending on the milk used.
The preparation keeps the matcha dissolution step separate to avoid lumps, creating a clean flavor and vibrant color. It is lightly sweetened optionally with simple syrup before serving. This drink works well as a cooling, energizing beverage any time of day.
Ingredients
- 2 teaspoons matcha powder
- 1 to 2 tablespoons water hot
- 1 cup water warm
- ice
- milk I used almond milk, of choice
Instructions
- In a measuring cup or bowl, add the matcha powder. Pour in the 1 to 2 tablespoons of hot water and whisk until the matcha has fully incorporated into the water. This should create almost a bit of a paste.
- Pour in the remaining 1 cup of water and mix. Transfer to the fridge or freezer to chill for about 15 minutes.
- Fill two glasses full of ice and add your milk of choice so the glass is about 3/4 of the way full. If you like, this is a great time to add any simple syrup. Lastly, pour in the chilled matcha and stir.
Notes
- Use any milk alternative or dairy milk based on preference, like almond, soy, oat, cashew, or cow's milk.
- To create a fruit twist, try variations like Strawberry Matcha Latte by adding strawberry syrup or puree.
