Iced Strawberry Matcha Latte

The Iced Strawberry Matcha Latte layers lightly mashed sweet strawberries over ice and almond milk and finishes with a freshly whisked matcha mixture. This drink balances fruity sweetness with the earthy, slightly bitter matcha flavor, offering a refreshing and visually appealing beverage.

Description

This iced latte begins by mixing chopped strawberries with cane sugar to release their juices and sweetness. Separately, ceremonial-grade matcha powder is sifted and whisked with cold water to create a smooth, frothy green tea base. Strawberries are placed at the glass bottom, layered with ice and almond milk for creaminess and a nutty undertone.

Pouring the whisked matcha over the milk creates distinct layers that can be stirred together for a harmonious blend. The strawberry imparts a fresh sweetness and color contrast against the vibrant green matcha, while the almond milk softens the matcha’s natural bitterness. Optional sweeteners like maple syrup or honey can be added to taste.

This drink suits warm weather or any time a lightly sweetened, tea-based cold beverage is desired. It’s a simple way to enjoy the flavors of fresh fruit paired with matcha's energizing qualities.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 5 strawberry hulled and finely chopped (about ⅓ cup, fresh
  • 1 teaspoon cane sugar
  • ½ to 1 teaspoon matcha powder ½ to 1 teaspoon matcha powder, (we used Matcha.com's Ceremonial Organic in this recipe)
  • ¼ cup water cold
  • ice
  • ½ to 1 cup almond milk
  • maple syrup to taste, optional, or honey

Instructions

  1. Place the strawberries and sugar in a small bowl. Use a fork to combine, lightly mashing the strawberries as you mix. Set aside.
  2. Sift the matcha powder into another small bowl to remove any lumps. Add the water and use a matcha whisk to whisk briskly from side to side until the matcha is fully dispersed and a foamy layer forms on top.
  3. Place the strawberries at the bottom of a tall glass. Fill halfway with ice, then pour in enough almond milk to fill the glass two thirds of the way full. Top with the matcha mixture.
  4. Stir to combine and taste with a straw. If desired, sweeten with maple syrup or honey to taste.
