Instant Pot Broccoli

Instant Pot Broccoli uses medium-cut florets steamed briefly under high pressure without added cook time. The quick steam preserves the broccoli's texture and vibrant green color. A grilled broccoli variation adds a charred flavor using coconut oil, garlic, chili, and lemon. This recipe provides a simple way to prepare broccoli as a steamed or grilled side with fresh seasoning options.

Description

Instant Pot Broccoli features medium-sized florets steamed in an Instant Pot with one cup of water at high pressure for zero minutes, then quickly released. This method allows the broccoli to cook gently, retaining its natural color and crunch. The steamed broccoli can be seasoned simply with salt, chili, citrus, or sesame oil. The recipe also includes instructions for grilled broccoli, where broccoli florets are charred on a grill pan after tossing in a hot mixture of coconut oil, garlic, and chili. Lemon juice and wedges finish the dish.

The steamed broccoli develops a tender yet crisp texture while the grilled version brings smoky flavors with crisp edges from the high heat. Both methods provide healthy vegetable sides with versatile seasoning options based on individual taste.

This broccoli pairs well with rice, chicken marinades, or Parmesan crusted chicken dishes, making it a complementary vegetable side. The grilled option adds aromatic garlic and chili notes for a more intense flavor.

The recipe notes mention that cook time excludes pressure buildup and release and suggest increasing pressure time to one minute for softer broccoli or larger florets. Additionally, the cooking water can be saved and chilled for a vitamin-rich drink. This practical tip provides a way to utilize the nutrients leached during steaming.

  • 4 cloves garlic sliced
  • lemon juice dash
  • 1 mild chili sliced
  • lemon for garnish, wedges
  • salt
  • black pepper

Instructions

Instant Pot Broccoli

  1. Wash the broccoli.
  2. Add the water to the Instant Pot insert.
  3. Place the steamer basket inside the Instant Pot insert and then add the broccoli florets to it.
  4. Select the manual or pressure cook button (dependent upon IP model), select high pressure and set the timer to 0 mins.
  5. As soon as Instant Pot comes to pressure and beeps, do a Quick Release. When complete, remove the lid.
  6. Season to taste. You can use salt, chilli, citrus, sesame oil etc.

To Make Grilled Broccoli

  1. Add the oil, garlic and the chilli to a pot over medium heat until garlic starts turning golden brown. Garlic and chilli burn very quickly so as soon as they start changing colour,  pour the mix into a cool container to stop the cooking.
  2. Heat a grill pan or broiler over high heat and grill the broccoli in batches making sure to turn the florets halfway through so all sided get char marks.
  3. Transfer the grilled broccoli to a bowl, pour the garlic and chilli mix and a dash of lemon juice (if using).
  4. Adjust seasoning, add in lemon wedges (if using) and serve.

Notes

  • Adjust cooking time to 1 minute under high pressure for softer broccoli or larger florets.
  • Save and chill the cooking water for a nutrient-rich drink containing vitamins extracted during steaming.
  • Cook time excludes time to reach pressure and natural pressure release.
  • Serve steamed or grilled broccoli alongside rice, chicken marinades, or Parmesan crusted chicken for a balanced meal.
