Mango Salsa

Mango Salsa combines ripe diced mangoes with finely chopped jalapeño, red onion, fresh cilantro, lime juice, and ground cumin for a fresh, fruity, and mildly spicy condiment. The salsa balances sweetness from mango with citrus brightness and subtle heat, making it a versatile topping or dip served alongside tortilla chips.

Description

This Mango Salsa uses ripe mangoes peeled, cored, and diced small, mixed with finely chopped jalapeño pepper (with seeds removed for mildness), red onion, and minced fresh cilantro to add vibrant herbal notes. Lime juice brightens the mixture while ground cumin adds a slight earthiness. Salt enhances all the flavors and ties the ingredients together.

The salsa is chilled before serving, allowing the flavors to meld and develop balance. It pairs well with tortilla chips as a dip, or can be used as a topping for grilled meats, fish, or tacos, adding a refreshing contrast with its fruity and slightly spicy profile.

When selecting mangoes, use touch and smell to assess ripeness rather than color alone. The salsa keeps well refrigerated for up to four days, making it convenient to prepare in advance.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 2 ripe Mango peeled, cored and diced (see note 1
  • 1 jalapeno pepper seeded and finely chopped (see note 2)
  • 1/4 cup red onion finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons lime juice (from 2 limes)
  • 2 tablespoons cilantro see note 3, fresh, minced
  • 1/4 teaspoon cumin ground
  • salt
  • tortilla chips for serving

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, add mango, jalapeños, onion, lime juice, cilantro, cumin, and salt to taste (I like 1/4 teaspoon). Stir to combine. Chill until serving time and serve with tortilla chips.

Notes

  • Use ripe mangoes that yield slightly to gentle pressure and have a fruity aroma for best sweetness.
  • Seeds of jalapeños can be included or omitted to adjust the salsa’s heat level.
  • If you dislike cilantro, the salsa is still pleasant without it.
  • Store leftover mango salsa covered in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
