Maple Cinnamon Pecan Butter
Description
This pecan butter is made by processing raw pecans in a food processor until they break down from chunks to powder and eventually form a smooth butter as the oils release. The process takes around 10-15 minutes with occasional scraping of the sides to ensure even blending. Once smooth, maple syrup, cinnamon, and vanilla extract are added and briefly mixed in.
The resulting spread combines the rich, nutty flavor of pecans with warm cinnamon spice and the sweetness of maple syrup. It has a creamy consistency that is ideal for spreading or adding to dishes needing a spiced nut element.
Toasting the pecans beforehand can enhance oil release and add deeper flavor, though the nuts must be completely cooled before blending. A pinch of sea salt can be added to balance the sweetness, and a little melted coconut oil may be stirred in if a looser consistency is desired. A high-powered food processor is recommended to achieve the right texture.
Ingredients
- 200 g pecans
- 6 tablespoon maple syrup
- 2 tablespoon cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Put 200 g Pecans into the food processor and start to blend them up. At first they will turn in to small chunks, and then in to a powder. After a whilst, the powder will start to clump together and then it will slowly turn in to a butter.
- This process will take around 10-15 minutes and you will need to stop it a few times to scrape the sides down and make sure it is all getting mixed up. Once the butter is nice and smooth, add 6 tablespoon Maple syrup, 2 tablespoon Cinnamon and 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract and pulse for a couple of seconds.
- Scrape out of the food processor and into a jar.
Notes
- Toasting pecans before processing enhances flavor and helps achieve a smoother butter; allow them to cool fully before blending.
- Add a pinch of sea salt to balance the sweetness from the maple syrup if desired.
- Use a high-powered food processor rather than a blender for better texture and easier scraping.
- If the butter is too thick, stir in a small amount of melted coconut oil to loosen it without adding water.
- Processing pecans can be loud; consider making it at a suitable time to avoid disturbing others.
- This pecan butter makes a thoughtful homemade gift when stored in a decorated jar with a lid.
