Meatball Sliders
Description
This recipe starts by preparing soft Hawaiian rolls, where a small portion from the top is removed to create a cavity for a meatball. The rolls are brushed inside and out with a mixture of melted butter, garlic, Italian seasoning, and garlic salt to infuse flavor and moisture.
Partially shredded mozzarella cheese is pressed inside each roll before a fully cooked, thawed meatball coated with marinara sauce is placed inside. More marinara sauce is spooned on top of the meatball followed by a sprinkle of parmesan and the remaining mozzarella cheese. Covering the baking sheet with foil while baking ensures the sliders heat through evenly without drying out, and finishing uncovered allows the cheese to brown slightly.
Once baked, these meatball sliders offer a balance of soft bread, melty cheese, tangy tomato sauce, and savory meat. Garnishing with fresh herbs and serving with extra marinara suits casual meals or parties.
Ingredients
- 12 count hawaiian rolls
- 3 tablespoons butter melted
- 1 tablespoon garlic minced
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1/8 teaspoon garlic salt
- 6 ounces mozzarella cheese shredded, divided
- 12 meatballs fully cooked, thawed
- 1/2 cup marinara sauce
- 1 tablespoon Parmesan Cheese
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Cover a baking sheet with parchment paper or foil. Spray if using foil.
- Place rolls onto the baking sheet. Cut a hole into the tops of each roll and remove about a tablespoon of the center of the roll. Enough to fit a meatball in the center and have it still stick out the top a bit.
- Mix together melted butter, garlic, Italian seasonings, and garlic salt. Brush inside and over the tops of the rolls, pushing garlic inside the roll centers.
- Press a pinch of mozzarella into each roll.
- Coat meatballs with ¼ cup marinara sauce and press a meatball into each roll. Top each meatball with remaining marinara sauce; about 1 teaspoon of sauce each.
- Sprinkle sliders with parmesan and remaining mozzarella.
- Cover with foil and bake for 10 minutes. Uncover and bake for an additional 10 minutes.
- Sprinkle with chopped fresh basil, parsley or additional parmesan cheese. Serve with extra marinara sauce.
