Meatballs with Onion
Description
Meatballs with Onion are made by mixing ground beef with an entire egg, onion soup mix, and panko breadcrumbs, forming the mixture into evenly sized balls. Baking these on a lined sheet in a preheated oven cooks them evenly, concentrating the beef flavor complemented by the savory notes from the onion soup mix. The panko breadcrumbs add a subtle lightness to the texture, preventing the meatballs from becoming overly dense.
The baking method provides an easy cleanup and consistent cooking without the need for frying, and the size of each meatball, shaped using a two-tablespoon scoop, ensures uniform doneness. Letting the meatballs cool briefly after baking helps consolidate their shape before serving.
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 whole egg
- 1 packet onion soup mix
- ¼ cup panko breadcrumbs
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F.
- Add the ground beef, egg, onion soup mix, and panko to a large mixing bowl.
- Combine until it’s all mixed through. I find that using my hands works best for this.
- Form the mixture into 20 equal sized balls. I like to use a 2 tablespoon cookie scoop and then smooth them in my hands.
- Place the meatballs evenly spaced on a parchment lined baking sheet.
- Bake for 20 minutes or until cooked through.
- Remove them from the oven and allow them to cool for about 5 minutes before serving.
