Memphis Barbecue Chicken Wings

Memphis Barbecue Chicken Wings are oven-baked wings tossed in vegetable oil, kosher salt, and coarse black pepper, then coated with Memphis-style barbecue sauce and baked further to caramelize. The wings have crispy skin with a smoky, tangy barbecue flavor from the sauce, making them a flavorful and textured appetizer or main dish.

Description

This recipe prepares 32 chicken wings seasoned simply with vegetable oil, kosher salt, and coarse black pepper before baking. Baking at 375°F for 40-45 minutes crisps the skin and cooks the wings through. The wings are then tossed in homemade Memphis Barbecue Sauce and baked an additional 5 minutes to let the sauce adhere and intensify its flavor.

The result is wings with a crisp exterior and a sticky, tangy barbecue coating typical of the Memphis style. This approach allows the chicken flavor to stand out while enhanced by the barbecue sauce's balance of sweet, smoky, and slightly spicy notes.

These wings are suitable as a hearty appetizer or paired with sides for a barbecue meal. Baking instead of frying offers a simpler hands-off approach with less mess.
