Mexican Bean Dip
Description
The dip is prepared by mixing refried beans with sour cream and softened cream cheese to create a smooth base. Taco seasoning and salsa add several layers of flavor, while shredded Mexican cheese on top melts during baking to add richness. Baking at 350°F for about 25 minutes melds the layers and produces a hot, creamy dip.
This dish works well as a party snack or appetizer for gatherings, especially paired with crunchy tortilla chips. The dip can be customized or topped with fresh vegetables to add brightness or texture contrast.
For convenience, the filling can be combined ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator. Leftovers keep well refrigerated for a few days or can be frozen for up to three months. Reheating in an oven or microwave helps restore the creamy texture.
Ingredients
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 (16-ounce) can refried beans
- 4 ounces cream cheese softened
- 1 taco seasoning package
- ⅓ cup salsa
- 1 cup Mexican cheese blend shredded
- optional toppings, chopped tomatoes, cilantro, onion, avocado
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F.
- In a medium bowl, mix beans, sour cream, and cream cheese until well combined. Add taco seasoning and salsa and mix well.
- Pour into an 8x8 pan. Top with shredded cheese and bake for 25 minutes.
- Add any additional toppings and serve hot with Tortilla Chips.
Notes
- Prepare the filling a day ahead and store it covered in the refrigerator to enhance flavor melding.
- Keep leftover dip refrigerated in an airtight container for up to 3 days, or freeze for up to 3 months.
- Reheat large portions in the oven or crockpot to maintain texture; small amounts can be reheated in the microwave.
