Mexican Shredded Beef

Mexican Shredded Beef is a slow-cooked chuck roast flavored with salsa verde, chili powder, cumin, garlic, and lime juice. The beef becomes tender enough to shred easily, absorbing spicy, tangy, and savory notes. The dish is versatile, suitable for tacos, quesadillas, rice bowls, or salads.

Description

This Mexican Shredded Beef uses a 3-pound chuck roast slow-cooked with diced sweet onion, pressed garlic, and a spice rub of chili powder, cumin, salt, and optional cayenne pepper. The robust seasoning profile pairs with salsa verde and lime juice added on top before cooking low and slow for 6-8 hours, which breaks down the connective tissue resulting in tender meat.

After cooking, the roast is shredded with forks and mixed back into the cooking juices to stay moist and flavorful. The salsa verde imparts a mild tang and herbal brightness, complemented by smoky and warm spices from the chili powder and cumin. This slow cooker method ensures easy hands-off cooking with rich layered flavors.

Serve this shredded beef with garnishes such as fresh cilantro and accompany it with staples like rice, tortillas for tacos or quesadillas, or use as a hearty salad topping. It makes a flavorful protein base for various Mexican-inspired meals.
