Mint yogurt chutney recipe

Mint Yogurt Chutney combines fresh mint, cilantro, garlic, and optional green chili blended into natural yogurt, seasoned with salt and black pepper. This creates a refreshing, herby condiment with a smooth texture and tangy flavor.

Description

This chutney starts by finely chopping or blitzing mint leaves, cilantro, garlic, and green chili into a coarse paste. The herby mixture is folded into natural, unflavored yogurt and seasoned with salt and freshly ground black pepper. The yogurt base contributes a creamy tartness balancing the fresh herbs and the mild heat of the chili.

The result is a versatile chutney that can accompany various dishes, providing a bright, cooling contrast especially with spicy or fried foods. It showcases the subtle pungency of garlic and fresh herbaceous notes from mint and cilantro.

If the yogurt is too thick, a spoon or two of milk can adjust the consistency. Greek-style yogurt works as a substitute but may require adding lemon juice and milk to achieve a similar tangy texture.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 cup natural yogurt unflavored
  • mint leaves a handful
  • cilantro aka green coriander, a handful
  • 1 garlic small clove
  • black pepper from the grinder, freshly ground
  • salt according to taste
  • 1 green chili optional.

Instructions

  1. Put the mint leaves, cilantro, green chili, and garlic in a mini chopper. Blitz it until you get a slightly rough paste of herbs.
  2. In a bowl, pour the yogurt and add the green paste. Season it with salt and black pepper.
  3. Using a fork or a spoon, mix the yogurt until the herbs everything is well mixed. Taste it and add more seasoning if needed.

Notes

  • If the yogurt is thicker than desired, add a little milk to loosen the consistency.
  • Greek-style yogurt can be used but may need lemon juice and milk to balance thickness and tartness.
  • Adjust salt and black pepper to taste after mixing for best flavor.
