Overnight Salad or Seven Layer Salad
Description
Overnight Salad or Seven Layer Salad features a combination of fresh vegetables, hard-boiled eggs, cheese, and bacon arranged in distinct layers. The base is chopped iceberg lettuce, topped with chopped eggs, bell peppers, sliced red onion, peas, tomatoes, green onions, dried cranberries, shredded cheddar, and bacon. A buttermilk dressing made from sour cream, mayonnaise, buttermilk, garlic and onion powders, and fresh herbs adds a creamy element that ties the salad together. The layering and refrigeration let flavors blend while maintaining a variety of textures, from crunchy to creamy.
The salad is assembled by layering each ingredient over the lettuce, then partially drizzling and spreading dressing between layers. After chilling at least 4 hours or overnight, it is garnished with extra bacon and green onions before serving. This preparation is convenient for preparing ahead for gatherings or meal prep. It serves as a refreshing accompaniment or a standalone dish for those who enjoy mixed textures and mildly tangy buttermilk flavor paired with bacon and cheese.
