Peanut Butter Blossoms

Peanut Butter Blossoms combine creamy peanut butter and butter with sugars, egg, and milk to form a soft dough, finished with a classic milk chocolate kiss pressed into the center. The dough balls are rolled in granulated sugar before baking until the edges are lightly golden, providing a tender cookie with a sweet chocolate center and a lightly crisp sugar coating.

Description

Peanut Butter Blossoms feature a dough made from creamy peanut butter, softened butter, granulated and brown sugars, egg, milk, vanilla, and basic leavening with baking soda and salt. After mixing, the dough is shaped into small balls, rolled in granulated sugar, and baked at 375°F until the edges develop a light golden color. Once out of the oven, a single milk chocolate kiss is pressed into the center of each cookie, where it slightly softens but retains shape, adding a smooth chocolate note that complements the peanut butter base.

The cookies have a tender interior with a bit of a sugary crust from the outer rolling. Their balanced sweetness and familiar flavor profile make them a traditional holiday or everyday treat. The chocolate kiss adds both visual appeal and a rich center point, contrasting with the soft, slightly chewy cookie exterior.

These cookies can be served at room temperature and are ideal alongside coffee or as a hand-held dessert. Because the dough portioning is consistent, the baked cookies come out uniformly sized and bake evenly. Pressing the chocolate immediately after baking helps it maintain a glossy finish and melts slightly into the warm cookie.

Using unsalted butter softened to cool room temperature ensures the right texture and flavor balance, while fresh baking soda is necessary for proper leavening and texture. Rolling the dough balls in sugar before baking gives a light sugary crust around each cookie.

Ingredients

Servings
  • ½ c. peanut butter creamy
  • ½ c. butter softened to cool room temperature, unsalted
  • ½ c. granulated sugar plus more for rolling dough balls
  • ½ c. brown sugar light; firmly packed
  • 1 egg
  • 2 T. milk
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract pure
  • 1-1/4 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • ½ tsp. kosher salt
  • 60 milk chocolate kisses unwrapped (a 10.8 oz. package contains about 66 Kisses, brand Hershey's

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375° F.
  2. In a large bowl, beat peanut butter, butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, egg, milk, and vanilla with electric mixer on medium speed until well blended. Blend in flour, baking soda, and salt until dough forms.
  3. Shape dough into balls that are just bit more than 1" in diameter. I like to use a small scoop to portion out the dough - mine holds 1 tablespoon of dough. Roll dough balls in granulated sugar and place them on ungreased cookie sheets, about 2" apart.
  4. Bake for 8 minutes, or until edges are light golden brown. Remove from oven and immediately press a chocolate kiss into the center of each cookie. Remove from cookie sheets to cooling rack.

Notes

  • Use unsalted butter softened to cool room temperature for best texture and consistency in the dough.
  • Ensure baking soda is fresh and active to achieve proper rise and texture in the cookies.
  • Roll each dough ball in granulated sugar before baking to create a lightly crisp sugar coating on the finished cookies.
  • Press the chocolate kiss firmly into each cookie immediately after baking to keep its shape and add a slightly melted center.
