Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joes

Report
Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joes reimagine the classic sloppy joe by combining ground beef with sautéed onions and bell peppers, simmered in steak sauce and beef stock, then topped with provolone cheese on buns. The beef mixture is rich and savory with tender cooked vegetables, making a hearty sandwich with a familiar cheesesteak flavor profile in a convenient sloppy joe style.

Description

The recipe begins by browning ground beef and draining excess fat before cooking it together with chopped onions and green and red bell peppers until the vegetables soften. A combination of A1 steak sauce, beef stock, garlic salt, and black pepper is added to create a flavorful sauce, which is brought to a boil then simmered for 10 minutes to develop the taste and thicken the mixture.

This saucy beef and vegetable mixture is spooned onto sandwich buns and topped with provolone cheese slices, which melt from the heat. The result is a rich, savory sandwich with tender beef and softened peppers and onions, echoing the flavors of a Philly cheesesteak in a messier, saucier form that is easy to eat.

This sandwich works well for casual meals and can be cooked on the stovetop or made in a slow cooker by browning the meat first then simmering slowly to develop flavor and tenderness.

When using the slow cooker, cooking on low for 6 hours or high for 3 hours allows flavors to meld and the meat to remain tender.
