Pico de Gallo Recipe
Description
The Pico de Gallo Recipe centers on combining seeded and diced plum tomatoes, finely chopped white onion, serrano chile, and cilantro leaves to create a fresh, chunky salsa. The addition of lime juice adds brightness and a balancing acidity, while sea salt enhances the flavors without overpowering. The finely chopped ingredients ensure each bite combines the salsa’s components evenly.
This salsa is not cooked but served immediately to retain its crisp fresh flavors. It showcases a mild heat level from serrano chiles, complemented by the herbal freshness of cilantro and the sweetness of ripe tomatoes. The lime juice’s quantity is controlled to maintain a balanced flavor, avoiding overwhelming acidity.
Commonly served as a topping or side in Mexican cuisine, Pico de Gallo can enhance tacos, grilled meats, or chips. White onion is traditional here, though other onions can be used. It is best eaten fresh but can be refrigerated for up to one day. Using Mexican (Key) limes yields an authentic bright lime taste, although other limes or jalapeños can be substituted thoughtfully.
