Pumpkin Smoothie
Description
The Pumpkin Smoothie is made by blending pumpkin puree, chopped frozen banana, and milk (dairy or plant-based) with maple syrup and pumpkin pie spice. The banana adds natural sweetness and thickens the texture, while the pumpkin delivers a mild earthy flavor complemented by the warm notes of cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves from the spice blend. The maple syrup can be adjusted for sweetness to taste. The blending process ensures a smooth, uniform consistency, making it refreshing yet rich enough to serve as a quick, nutrient-tinged beverage.
This smoothie fits well as a seasonal treat or supplementary breakfast, especially when a lightly spiced and creamy cooler drink is desired. It can be served immediately or stored chilled for a few days, but separation may occur and requires stirring or shaking before serving.
You can substitute protein powder with Greek yogurt for additional creaminess and protein. Non-dairy milks like almond, oat, or soy milk work well in place of cow's milk.
Ingredients
- 1 cup milk or almond milk (see note 1)
- 1 banana chopped and frozen
- 1 coop protein powder or 1/2 cup Greek yogurt, optional (see note 2)
- 2 tablespoons pumpkin puree
- 1 tablespoon maple syrup (see note 3)
- pinch pumpkin pie spice (see note 4)
Instructions
- In the bottom of a blender, add milk, banana, pumpkin, maple syrup, and pumpkin pie spice. Blend until smooth. Taste and add additional maple syrup or pumpkin pie spice, if desired.
Notes
- Use cow's milk or any non-dairy alternative like almond, oat, cashew, or soy milk depending on preference.
- Protein can come from Greek yogurt or protein powder; adjust based on availability or dietary needs.
- Maple syrup can be substituted with honey, agave, or a splash of vanilla for sweetness variation.
- Make your own pumpkin pie spice by mixing cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, allspice, and cloves; store in airtight container up to six months.
- Yield is about 2 cups, suitable for one serving; leftover smoothie can be refrigerated up to four days with stirring before drinking.
