Raspberry Rose Compote
Description
This Raspberry Rose Compote combines 250 grams of rinsed raspberries with granulated cane sugar simmered over medium-low heat until the berries break down and the mixture thickens. Rose water is added near the end of cooking to impart a subtle floral aroma that elevates the natural brightness and sweetness of the raspberries.
The cooking process reduces the berries to a luscious sauce with both sweet and tangy tones that balances well against the delicate floral note. The compote sets slightly as it cools, gaining a spreadable consistency.
The compote can be enjoyed warm or cooled and works well spooned over yogurt, ice cream, pancakes, or as a filling in pastries. For a smoother texture, straining through a sieve to remove raspberry seeds is an option.
Ingredients
- 250 g raspberry rinsed and drained
- 2-3 tablespoon granulated cane sugar depending on how sweet/sour the raspberries are
- 1 tablespoon rose water start with ½ teaspoon and adjust according to your taste
Instructions
- In a small saucepan, combine the raspberries and sugar.
- Bring to a simmer over medium-low heat and stir occasionally, until thickened and reduced, about 10-15 minutes.
- Once thickened, add in the rose water and cook for another 1-2 minutes.
- Remove from heat and let cool.
- Note: The compote will thicken a little more once cooled.
- Optional: If you want to remove the seeds, push the mixture through a sieve.
