Recipe for Instant Pot One Ingredient Dulce de Leche

This Dulce de Leche recipe uses a single ingredient—sweetened condensed milk—and the Instant Pot to create a creamy caramel spread. The sealed can of condensed milk is pressure cooked, caramelizing the sugars and thickening the milk into a rich, golden dulce de leche. This method requires minimal effort and produces a smooth result without stirring or additional ingredients.

Description

The recipe uses just a 14-ounce can of sweetened condensed milk wrapped in aluminum foil and placed on a trivet inside the Instant Pot. Water is added to reach halfway up the can, then pressure cooked on high for 35 minutes. After cooking, the can cools before opening to reveal thickened, deeply caramelized dulce de leche.

This process converts the sugars and milk solids into a luscious caramel without burning or stirring, relying on consistent moist heat under pressure. The sealed can ensures even cooking and prevents contamination.

Dulce de leche prepared this way can be used as a spread, a dessert topping, or an ingredient in baking. It has a creamy texture and rich sweetness derived from condensed milk and slow caramelization inside the sealed can.

Instructions

  1. Choose as many cans of condensed milk as you would like and will fit in an Instant Pot.
  2. Using a can opener, remove the can lids. Cover the cans well with aluminum foil.
  3. Place the cans onto a trivet (or mason jar rings) placed inside the Instant Pot. Add water until the water level reaches halfway up the side of the cans.
  4. Put the lid on the Instant Pot, lock it to seal it. Choose high pressure and 35 minutes on the timer.
  5. Once finished, release the pressure and let the contents cool for about 20 minutes. Using tongs, remove the cans from the Instant Pot and take the foil off. Be careful as the Dulce de Leche may be still hot.
