The sausage sizzle, sausage in bread or sausage sandwich, is a popular Australian and New Zealand event in which sausages are grilled.

Ingredients
- 4 thin beef sausages (or pork sausages)
- 1 onion , cut into thin rings
- tomato sauce
- mustard
- 4 large slices white sandwich bread
- 4 tablespoons vegetable oil
- butter (or margarine, to taste)
Instructions
- Bring the sausages to a grill, preferably a wood-fired barbecue, and grill them, turning them every 5 minutes until the desired doneness is achieved.
- Add the oil in a pan or on a hotplate, then add the onions.
- Using kitchen tongs, mix the onions until golden brown.
- When the sausages are cooked, spread, on the chosen bread, butter or margarine, to taste, then the onions, and add a split sausage.
- Finally add tomato sauce and mustard on top.
