Skinny Spicy Margarita Recipe
Description
The recipe starts by rimming a glass with tajin seasoning or coarsely ground sea salt, achieved by moistening the rim with lime juice and dipping it into the seasoning. In a shaker, tequila is combined with freshly squeezed lime juice, fresh orange juice, optional honey or agave syrup for sweetness, and sliced fresh jalapeño peppers to provide spiciness. The ingredients are shaken vigorously with ice to chill and mix flavors thoroughly.
The cocktail is strained into the prepared glass filled with ice and garnished with lime wedges and extra jalapeño slices for visual appeal and added flavor. The fresh citrus juices brighten the drink, while the jalapeño adds a spicy element without overpowering the drink’s balance. The optional sweetener allows customization of sweetness according to preference.
This margarita recipe can be scaled up for pitcher preparations, making it convenient for serving multiple guests. Using fresh juice and fresh jalapeño slices ensures a vibrant and natural flavor profile.
Ingredients
- 2 ounces tequila also called Blanco tequila, ¼ cup, silver
- 1.5 ounces lime juice about 1 lime, fresh, 3 tablespoons
- 1 ounce orange juice about ½ an orange, fresh, 2 tablespoons
- 1 - 2 teaspoon honey optional depending on your desired level of sweetness, or agave nectar
- 2 - 3 lices jalapeno pepper add more for spicer margarita, sliced, fresh
- 1 lime sliced for garnish
- tajin seasoning or coarsely ground sea salt
Instructions
- Add tajin onto a small plate. Wet the rim of your glass by rubbing a lime wedge around the top edge, then dip it into the tajin. Fill the glass with ice and set it to the side.
- In a cocktail shaker, add tequila, lime juice, orange juice, honey (optional), and jalapeño slices. Top with ice and shake vigorously for 30 seconds. If you don’t have a cocktail shaker, use a sealable jar or water bottle.
- Strain and pour into tajin rimmed glass.
- Garnish with lime wedges and extra jalapeño slices. Enjoy!
Notes
- Honey can be replaced with stevia or a preferred sweetener to adjust sweetness.
- To make pitcher-sized margaritas, multiply all ingredients by six and mix in a large pitcher with plenty of ice.
- Tajin on the rim adds a tangy, spicy seasoning contrast but can be substituted with coarse sea salt if preferred.
- Adjust jalapeño slices to control the spiciness level.
