Slow Cooker BBQ Chicken
Description
Slow Cooker BBQ Chicken features chicken breasts cooked slowly with water and liquid smoke, which keeps the meat moist while infusing a subtle smoky essence. Once cooked, the chicken is shredded to create tender, pull-apart pieces ideal for absorbing the added barbecue sauce.
The shredded chicken is combined with reserved cooking liquid and BBQ sauce, then heated again in the slow cooker to blend flavors thoroughly. This method ensures the chicken is juicy and richly coated without drying out.
This versatile BBQ chicken works well served on hamburger buns, atop baked potatoes, or tucked into taquitos. Its smoky and tangy profile makes it suitable for a range of casual meals and gatherings where easy preparation and hearty protein are desired.
Ingredients
- 2 pounds chicken breast boneless skinless
- 1 cup water
- 2 Tablespoons liquid smoke
- 1 cup BBQ sauce
Instructions
- Place chicken in slow cooker. Pour water and liquid smoke over chicken. Cover and cook on low 4-6 hours.
- Remove chicken from slow cooker and shred. Drain liquid from slow cooker except for ½ c. Add ½ c. liquid from slow cooker to chicken and mix. Add BBQ sauce to chicken and place back in slow cooker. Heat on high until mixture is heated through about 30 minutes.
- Serve on buns, over baked potatoes, in taquitos or however you'd like to enjoy it!
