Slow Cooker Cabbage and Ham

Slow Cooker Cabbage and Ham combines diced ham, sautéed onion and garlic, chopped green cabbage, and chicken broth cooked slowly until the cabbage is tender and flavors meld. The result is a savory, aromatic dish with soft cabbage and crisped ham pieces, suitable as a hearty side or light main course.

Description

This recipe starts by browning diced ham in vegetable oil to develop a golden, crisp texture. The ham is then transferred to a slow cooker along with sautéed onion and garlic for aromatic depth. Chopped green cabbage and chicken broth are added, and the mixture is seasoned with salt and pepper. Cooking on high for about two hours softens the cabbage while allowing the flavors of ham and aromatics to infuse the broth.

The finished dish showcases tender cabbage that absorbs the savory, smoky ham flavor, complemented by the sweetness of cooked onion and garlic. The cooking method makes preparation convenient, requiring minimal attention once assembled. A garnish of fresh parsley can be added before serving for a fresh herbal note.

Ideal as an easy, warming comfort food, this cabbage and ham combination pairs well with mashed potatoes, rice, or crusty bread. Seasoning should be adjusted to taste after cooking, and leftovers can be reheated gently to maintain cabbage texture.
