Slow Cooker Teriyaki Chicken

Report
This Slow Cooker Teriyaki Chicken features chicken breasts cooked gently in teriyaki sauce until tender enough to shred into large chunks. The chicken soaks up the savory, slightly sweet sauce during the slow cooking process. After shredding, the chicken is mixed back into the sauce for a consistently flavorful dish with tender, moist pieces of chicken.

Description

In this recipe, boneless chicken breasts are combined with teriyaki sauce in a slow cooker and cooked over several hours until the meat is tender. The slow cooking allows the chicken to absorb the sauce's soy, sugar, and ginger-based flavors thoroughly. The chicken is shredded into large chunks instead of finely pulled to maintain texture and avoid becoming too dry or stringy. Returning the shredded chicken to the sauce ensures it remains moist and evenly coated.

The dish can be served as a main protein with rice or vegetables to balance the savory-sweet sauce. The homemade teriyaki sauce provides control over saltiness and sweetness, but store-bought sauce may also be used for convenience.

This recipe suggests minimal shredding to keep substantial chicken pieces and to avoid drying out the meat. If the dish seems dry, extra sauce can be prepared and added sparingly due to its salt content. The slow cooker method provides an effortless way to prepare flavorful chicken with a rich sauce and tender bite.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 700 g chicken breast
  • 8 portion teriyaki sauce homemade

Instructions

  1. Make the teriyaki sauce.
  2. Put the chicken breasts into a slow cooker and cover with the teriyaki sauce. Cook on high for 4 hours.

Notes

  • A good quality store-bought teriyaki sauce can be used as a time-saving alternative to homemade sauce.
  • If the chicken seems dry, prepare extra sauce and drizzle over the dish at serving, but use sparingly because the sauce is salty.
  • Shred the cooked chicken into large chunks rather than finely pulling it to maintain texture and moisture.
