Sparkling Strawberry Lemonade
Description
The Sparkling Strawberry Lemonade recipe starts by simmering fresh strawberries with water and sugar to create a strawberry syrup. After cooling, the mixture is pureed and strained to remove seeds, resulting in a smooth, fruity base. Freshly squeezed lemon juice is added to bring a citrus tang that balances the natural sweetness of the strawberries and sugar. Finally, mixing in cold sparkling mineral water gives this beverage a lively fizz and refreshing mouthfeel.
The flavor is a bright combination of strawberry sweetness and lemon tartness, complemented by the fizzy sparkle from the mineral water. The syrup’s slight thickness provides a pleasing texture that carries the fruit flavor throughout the drink.
This lemonade works well served chilled with ice cubes, making it a suitable refreshment for warm weather or social events. For variation, the recipe can be adapted to use still water, which allows for refrigerated storage, or can be extended into an alcoholic cocktail by mixing with champagne, offering versatility for different occasions.
Preparation includes optionally straining the strawberry blend twice to ensure smoothness and removing seeds. Using sparkling water-sweetened lemonade is best consumed immediately to retain fizz, whereas still water variants can be refrigerated for later use.
Ingredients
- 1 cup sugar I used Natvia, or sugar alternative
- 1 cup water plus 3 cups sparkling mineral water
- 2 cups strawberry hulled and cut in half, fresh
- 1 cup lemon juice fresh, about 5-8 depending on size
Instructions
- In a small sauce pan combine 1 cup of the sweetener, 1 cup of water and strawberries. Cook over medium heat until the sugar dissolves and the strawberries begin to release its juices. Remove from heat and cool.
- Once cool put in a blender and process until smooth. Add lemon juice to combine with strawberries. Strain (a couple of times) to remove seeds (optional), and transfer to a pitcher.
- Stir in remaining 3 cups of water. Fill cups with ice and enjoy!
Notes
- You can substitute still water for sparkling water and refrigerate the lemonade for later use.
- To make an alcoholic version, add a small amount of the strawberry lemonade mixture to champagne.
- Straining the strawberry puree multiple times helps remove seeds for a smoother drink.
