Spicy Bean Sprout Salad
Description
Spicy Bean Sprout Salad highlights 12 ounces of bean sprouts quickly boiled and thoroughly drained to preserve a crisp yet tender texture. The sprouts are mixed with a seasoning blend combining toasted sesame oil, soy sauce, and a distinctive Japanese seven spice, commonly shichimi togarashi, which brings moderate heat and aromatic layers. Toasted sesame seeds add nuttiness and subtle crunch, complemented optionally by fresh chopped green onions for a mild garnish.
The seasoning balances saltiness from kosher salt and depth from freshly ground pepper, which can be black or white for a sharper pepper note. The salad’s simplicity and the fresh snap of the sprouts make it suitable as a light side dish or accompaniment in meals where a refreshing, mildly spicy vegetable element is desired.
This salad can be prepared in advance as it stores well for up to three days in the refrigerator. This makes it convenient for meal prep or serving over multiple meals without loss of texture or flavor. The tactile contrast and fragrant seasoning provide a distinctive vegetable salad option that departs from typical leafy greens.
