Spicy Coleslaw
Description
Spicy Coleslaw combines shredded cabbage and carrots with a creamy dressing made from mayonnaise, yellow mustard, and vinegar. The addition of Tabasco sauce introduces a controlled spiciness, while celery seed imparts a mild, savory note. Mixing the ingredients thoroughly ensures an even coating over the vegetables. Refrigerating the slaw for at least an hour allows the flavors to develop and provides a crisp, cool texture when served. The result is a crunchy and tangy side dish with a gentle heat that complements grilled or fried foods.
The texture is crunchy from the fresh vegetables, balanced by the creamy dressing's smoothness. The vinegar offers brightness and acidity, mellowing the sharpness of the mustard and hot sauce. This slaw works well alongside grilled meats or sandwiches and can be adjusted for heat by varying the amount of hot sauce used.
Storing the coleslaw in the refrigerator keeps it fresh and crisp, and serving it cold maintains its refreshing qualities. The recipe’s simplicity and balance of spicy and creamy elements make it versatile for various casual meals.
