Spinach Smoothie
Description
The Spinach Smoothie mixes almond milk, ripe banana, frozen pineapple chunks, fresh spinach, and protein powder or Greek yogurt into a smooth, drinkable blend. The fruits balance the earthiness of the spinach, while the almond milk creates a smooth base. Flax seeds contribute texture and nutritional elements like fiber and healthy fats.
Blending ingredients thoroughly produces a consistent texture with a subtle natural sweetness from the banana and pineapple, complemented by a mild green vegetable note. This drink is served cold and is convenient for a nutrient boost.
Adjust substitutions by using alternative plant-based milks or fresh pineapple with added ice. The protein choice can vary depending on dietary preference or availability. The smoothie can be stored in the refrigerator for several days with stirring to recombine separated ingredients before serving.
Yields approximately two cups, making one serving. Preparation is quick and requires only blending, making it a practical option for busy days or light nourishment.
Ingredients
- 1 cup almond milk or other milk (see note 1)
- 1 small banana
- 1 cup pineapple about 4 ounces, see note 2, frozen chunks
- 2 cups spinach see note 3, fresh
- 1 coop protein powder or ½ cup Greek yogurt (see note 4)
- 2 tablespoons flax seeds (see note 5)
Instructions
- In the bottom of a blender, add almond milk, banana, pineapple, spinach, protein powder or Greek yogurt, and flax seeds. Blend until smooth.
Notes
- Use any milk of choice including dairy or plant-based options like almond, cashew, oat, or soy milk.
- If using fresh pineapple, add about half a cup of ice to keep the smoothie chilled.
- Frozen spinach may be substituted for fresh to intensify the flavor; thaw before blending.
- Choose vanilla protein powder or substitute with half a cup of Greek yogurt as protein sources.
- Flax seeds or chia seeds can be used for added fiber, protein, and healthy fats.
- Store leftover smoothie in the refrigerator for up to four days; shake or stir well before drinking due to natural separation.
