Ingredients
- 250 g all-purpose flour
- 50 g caster sugar
- 7 g yeast Instant
- salt
- 120 ml milk Whole, Lukewarm
- 1 large egg
- 30 g unsalted butter Unsalted, Softened
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- vegetable oil For Frying
- Sprinkles For Decoration
For The Glaze
- 100 g dark chocolate Chopped
- 30 g butter Unsalted
- 2 tbsp icing sugar
- 2 tbsp milk Whole
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, caster sugar, instant yeast, and a pinch of salt.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the lukewarm milk, egg, softened butter, and vanilla extract.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough back in the mixing bowl, cover with a clean tea towel, and let it proof in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it has doubled in size.
- After the dough has risen, roll it out on a floured surface to about 1 cm thickness. Use a round cutter to cut out donut shapes.
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep frying pan to 180°C (use a kitchen thermometer to monitor the temperature).
- Carefully place the doughnuts into the hot oil, frying for about 2-3 minutes on each side until they are golden brown and puffed up.
- Remove the doughnuts from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain off excess oil.
- In a microwave-safe bowl or using a double boiler, melt the chopped dark chocolate and unsalted butter together until smooth.
- You can do this in the microwave by heating in short bursts and stirring in between until fully melted. Alternatively, use a double boiler on the stovetop.
- Once the chocolate and butter are melted, remove from heat and stir in the powdered sugar, whole milk, and vanilla extract until the glaze is smooth and well combined.
- If the glaze is too thick, you can add a little more milk to reach your desired consistency. If it's too thin, you can add more powdered sugar.
- Allow the chocolate glaze to cool slightly, but make sure it remains in a liquid state for dipping the donuts.
- Dip each warm doughnut into the prepared chocolate glaze, coating one side or the top as desired. You can dip them halfway or fully, depending on your preference.
- Place the glazed doughnuts on a wire rack or a parchment-lined tray to allow any excess glaze to drip off.
- Sprinkle them generously with colourful sprinkles.
- Serve your delicious sprinkle doughnuts immediately.
- Don’t forget to leave a rating.
