Steakhouse Style Garlic Mashed Potatoes

Steakhouse Style Garlic Mashed Potatoes are made by boiling unpeeled red potatoes and whole garlic cloves in chicken broth, then mashing with butter, cream cheese, buttermilk, and salt. The result is a creamy, flavorful side dish with a slight garlic infusion from the cloves cooked within the broth, giving depth without harsh raw garlic bite. The use of chicken broth adds savory richness compared to water.

Description

This recipe starts by bringing chicken broth to a boil, then adding red potatoes cut into chunks, along with whole garlic cloves, cooking until tender. Cooking the potatoes unpeeled helps retain moisture and nutrients. The garlic simmers gently in the broth, softening and mellowing its flavor.

Once cooked, potatoes and garlic are drained and placed in a bowl. Butter and cream cheese are added, melting into the warm potatoes for extra richness and creaminess. Buttermilk provides tang and smoothness, balancing the heavier dairy fats. Salt seasons the mash, bringing out the full flavor. A masher blends all ingredients until smooth but not overly whipped, preserving a creamy yet textured consistency similar to steakhouse preparations.

This side pairs well with grilled or roasted meats and hearty dishes where rich mashed potatoes are desirable. The garlic flavor is subtle, enhancing without overpowering. Using chicken broth in the cooking stage boosts depth compared to plain water. The recipe is straightforward but produces a noticeably rich and creamy mash with savory undertones from garlic and broth.
