Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400℉. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Season the chicken with salt and pepper. Add the eggs to a shallow plate, season with salt and pepper and beat well. Add the breadcrumbs to another shallow plate.
  3. Dip the chicken pieces first into the egg mixture, then dredge them through the breadcrumbs. Place the chicken onto the prepared baking sheet. Repeat until finished with all the chicken.
  4. Bake for about 20 to 30 minutes or until the chicken is golden brown and crisp.
  5. Meanwhile, add all the sauce ingredients to a small saucepan and bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Reduce the heat and simmer for about another 2 to 3 minutes, just until the sauce thickens a bit.
  6. Add the cooked chicken pieces to a bowl then pour the sauce over the chicken and toss well to combine.
  7. Garnish with chopped chives and sesame seeds and serve.

Notes

  • Panko breadcrumbs produce a crispier breading. They can usually be found in the international or baking aisles of your local grocery store. If you can't find Panko, regular breadcrumbs or crushed cornflakes will work just fine.
  • Five spice powder is commonly used in Chinese cooking and it’s usually a combination of cinnamon, cloves, fennel seed, star anise and szechuan peppercorns. Most grocery stores sell it in the spice aisle.
