Tamago Kake Gohan
Description
Tamago Kake Gohan involves piping hot cooked brown rice combined with raw eggs and splashes of tamari soy sauce. The heat from the rice gently cooks the eggs as they are vigorously mixed in, resulting in a creamy, lightly seasoned rice. The dish is topped with finely chopped scallions and sesame seeds to add flavor and texture.
This straightforward preparation highlights the simple yet satisfying combination of warm grains and egg. Optional toppings like extra egg yolks, nori strips, Japanese pickles, microgreens, avocado slices, roasted broccoli, or a splash of vinegar can be added to adjust flavor and texture according to preference.
Typically served immediately, Tamago Kake Gohan offers a quick and traditional meal or side dish featuring the creamy consistency achieved by stirring raw eggs into hot rice. Tamari adds saltiness, and garnishes bring freshness and subtle crunch.
