Tartare Sauce

Tartare Sauce is a classic cold condiment made by combining mayonnaise, finely chopped pickles and capers, parsley, and a touch of pickling juice with optional mustard powder. This simple yet flavorful sauce offers a creamy texture with a tangy, savory taste that pairs well with fried and seafood dishes or as a dip.

Description

This Tartare Sauce recipe mixes mayonnaise with chopped capers, pickles (such as gherkins or cornichons), fresh parsley, and pickling juice, creating a creamy sauce with bursts of briny, tangy flavors. Mustard powder adds a subtle warmth, though it is optional. All ingredients are stirred together until well combined and chilled before serving, allowing the flavors to meld.

The sauce’s rich and cool creaminess balanced by the pickled elements makes it an ideal accompaniment for fish and chips, vegetable fritters, or as a dip for fries and roasted vegetables. It can also be adjusted by substituting parsley for dill to shift the flavor profile.

Versatile and easy to prepare, this tartare sauce stores well in the refrigerator and can be lightened by blending mayonnaise with plain yogurt. Its texture and brightness enhance various dishes without overpowering the main flavors.
