Turkey Sloppy Joes

These Turkey Sloppy Joes are a healthier take on a timeless American classic while still being super delicious. This wholesome and family friendly dish will satisfy kids and adults alike!

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 onion, diced
  • 1/2 red bell pepper, diced
  • 1 carrot, diced
  • 1 celery stalk, diced
  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • 1 ounce can tomato sauce
  • 3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce 
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 sandwich buns or rolls (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large sauté pan over medium heat.
  2. Add the onion and cook for 3-5 minutes or until soft.
  3. Add the bell pepper, carrot and celery and continue cooking for 3 minutes.
  4. Add the ground turkey and cook for 5 minutes or until meat is cooked through.
  5. Add the tomato sauce and Worcestershire sauce and cook for 10 minutes.
  6. Season with salt and pepper.
  7. Spoon the turkey mixture onto hamburger buns or your choice of sandwich rolls, and serve.

Notes

  • Prepare the turkey mixture in advance and store it in the refrigerator for up to two days. Reheat it on the stove or in the microwave before assembling your sandwiches.
  • Freeze the turkey mixture for up to three months. Thaw it in the refrigerator before reheating and serving.
