Turkey Spinach Feta Burgers
Description
The recipe combines ground turkey with well-drained spinach and crumbled feta cheese, imparting moisture, flavor, and a slight tanginess typical of Greek cuisine. Greek seasoning and an egg help bind and season the mixture. Formed into 1/3 pound patties, the burgers are cooked over medium heat until fully cooked through (165°F internal temperature), which ensures safe and juicy results with a nicely browned exterior.
These burgers are versatile in serving options: they can be placed on brioche buns for a classic burger experience, wrapped inside pita or lettuce for a lighter option, or served in rice bowls for a complete meal. Additional toppings like tomato, cucumber, and tzatziki sauce can complement the flavors and textures beautifully.
The spinach should be thoroughly squeezed to remove excess moisture to prevent burgers from becoming too wet and falling apart. Using lean turkey combined with feta cheese balances lean protein with flavorful fat for a satisfying burger that holds together well while offering a distinctive taste experience.
Ingredients
- 2 pounds ground turkey (I use 93/7 lean ground turkey)
- 1 tablespoon Greek seasoning Cavenders or homemade
- 1 egg
- 10 ounces spinach thawed, frozen
- 5 ounces feta cheese crumbled
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
Instructions
- Squeeze the spinach to release as much moisture as possible.
- In a large bowl, combine all ingredients, except olive oil. Use your hands to work the meat mixture until everything is evenly distributed throughout.
- Form the mixture into 1/3 pound patties, about 1 inch thick.
- Heat a large skillet over medium heat with half of the olive oil. Once hot, place patties in the skillet and cook without turning for 4-5 minutes. Flip and cook for 4-5 on the other side or until the burger is cooked through 165˚F internal temperature.Remove the patties and cook any remaining turkey burger patties in the same way adding remaining olive oil as needed.Alternately the burgers can be cooked on a grill for 4-5 minutes per side.
- Once done serve on buns, in a pita, wrapped in lettuce, or in a bowl. Enjoy!
Notes
- Make sure to squeeze out as much water as possible from thawed spinach before mixing it with the turkey to maintain firm patties.
- Serve the burgers on brioche buns, pita bread, lettuce wraps, or over rice bowls with toppings like tomato, cucumber, and tzatziki sauce to complement the flavors.
